Stacking Nesting Tables

An expandable nesting table. The smaller tables which are contained in the bigger ones can work as additional surface, trays, drawers or stands to form a high table.

I originally intended to make an expandable table. It should transform from tall and narrow, to low and wide. Like when you have a ball of clay and press it flat.

I wanted to use an elaborate and clever mechanism to achieve the expanding effect and experimented with cardboard models as well as computer simulations.

All the solutions I got where way too complicated and not very elegant, so I ended up forming a high table by just stacking several small tables on top of each other, and a low and wide table by placing them next to each other.
