{"id":244,"date":"2015-12-15T11:53:11","date_gmt":"2015-12-15T10:53:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.kraeutli.com\/?p=244"},"modified":"2016-06-08T11:53:28","modified_gmt":"2016-06-08T10:53:28","slug":"brittens-tonal-patterns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.kraeutli.com\/index.php\/2015\/12\/15\/brittens-tonal-patterns\/","title":{"rendered":"Britten\u2019s Tonal Patterns"},"content":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\nThe Britten Pears Foundation maintains a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.brittenproject.org\/\">Thematic Catalogue<\/a> of works of British composer Benjamin Britten: a detailed database of all of Britten\u2019s works including manuscript sources, incipits and other related material.<br \/>\nThe catalogue does not yet contain digitised musical scores, but the curators were interest in the potential benefit of such data for research into Britten\u2019s music.<\/p>\n<p>\nI designed a visualisation tool which allows a research to analyse and compare tonal patterns across songs and song cycles. After selecting a song, users can \u2018brush\u2019 a representation of the tonal sequence, which highlights corresponding sequences in other songs.<br \/>\nThe tools allows users to discover the structure and patterns of individual songs, as well as co-occurrences of similar patterns across different compositions.
